Goldberger is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Physics at the University of California, San Diego. He is the former President of the California Institute of Technology, 1978-87, and Director of the Institute for Advanced Study, 1987-91. His awards and honors include: the Leonard I. Beerman Peace and Justice Award, 1987; the Presidential Award, New York Academy of Sciences, 1981; the Dannie Heineman Prize for Mathematical Physics, 1961; elected membership in the American Philosophical Society and the National Academy of Sciences; and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and American Physical Society Fellow.
