So many critical issues facing California today, such as water, energy, and public health, require a deep understanding of science. California State legislators are asked to make decisions on many of these issues, yet few have backgrounds in science, engineering, or technology.

CCST's mission is for science to inform decisionmaking in California, and what better way to do that than for PhD scientists to work directly with decision-makers?

To help the California State Legislature make the most informed decisions for the people and resources, CCST created the Science & Technology Policy Fellowship.

The program allows scientists and engineers to experience a year of public service and leadership training, and the chance to explore a career in California's policy arena. At the same time, the State Legislature benefits from access to highly skilled, science-savvy staff to inform their work.
