The California Institute of Technology (Caltech) is a small, highly focused university located in Pasadena with a strong emphasis on the natural sciences and engineering. It has approximately 970 undergraduates, 1250 graduate students, 300 faculty members, and more than 600 research scholars. In spite of its small size, it has become one of the world's leading institutions of scientific research and education, counting 35 Nobel laureates among its alumni and faculty. Caltech also operates and manages NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), an autonomous-space-flight complex that oversees the design and operation of most of NASA's space probes.
