Art Lopez is currently teaching Computer Science and Computer Applications courses at Sweetwater High School, and has taught in the Sweetwater Union High School District (located in San Diego County) for the past 27 years in National City. Art is currently one of the 50 nationally selected pilot instructors for the College Board's proposed Advance Placement "Computer Science Principles" course. He is also currently working with the CE21/ComPASS group of San Diego County, including UCSD, SDSU, and the San Diego Super Computer Center (led by Dr.'s Beth Simon and Diane Baxter), which is a group funded by the National Science Foundation and whose mission is to provide inclusive, and motivational instruction in computing foundations and computational thinking for all students, regardless of their eventual career path.

He has also taught as an adjunct instructor at Southwestern Community College, and is currently an instructor for computer programming workshops for middle school students at the University of California, San Diego. He is also currently one of the program/pilot coordinators for a pilot program of online learning for Sweetwater High School. Art has also worked as an instructional designer, trainer, of numerous workshops for professional development for instructors and students involving the integration of computer and online learning technologies as tools for the classroom.

Art Lopez graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a B.S. in Management Science. Art received his teaching credential (Bilingual: Spanish) from San Diego State University, and received his Master's Degree from San Diego State University in Educational Technology in 1997. He has previously served as the district chair for Business Education/Computer Applications department, and has served numerous years on both the Faculty Advisory Committee and School Site Council at Sweetwater High School. Art Lopez has also worked as a consultant for IVID: Customs Training Solutions Company and the Measuring Up program for People's Education Publisher. Art is a member of CSTA (Computer Science Teachers Association), ISTE (Instructors International Society for Performance and Improvement), and CUE (Computer Using Educators).

Art has a passion for education, instructional design, educational technology, STEM and, specifically, Computer/Information Science and/or Computer Applications education. Art is an advocate of integrating Computer Science education and course(s) as an integral component and requirement for students' education at the elementary, middle school, high school, and university/college levels. He is also hoping to introduce and foster to government, educational, and corporate institutions the importance of an introduction and learning of Computer Science Principles for all students, and the multitude of degrees and careers that exist within the computing and information sciences fields.

Lopez joined CalTAC in 2014.
