Hodges is Daniel M Tellep Distinguished Professor Emeritus in Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at UC Berkeley. He was Dean of the College of Engineering, 1990-96. He has been principal investigator for research grants from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the National Science Foundation, SEMATECH, Semiconductor Research Corporation and the State of California MICRO Program. He is a former Corporate Director for Mentor Graphics Corporation, and for Silicon Image, Inc. He is a past Trustee of the International Computer Science Institute and of the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute at Berkeley. At various times he has served as a Consultant or Advisor to SEMATECH, Intel Corporation, Sandia National Laboratories, Texas Instruments Inc., Xerox Corp., Hitachi Inc., Siemens Corporate Research, and others.

Dr. Hodges received a M.S. (1961) and Ph.D. (1966) in Electrical Engineering from UC Berkeley. His honors and awards include the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Education Medal, 1997; member of the National Academy of Engineering; and Life Fellow of the IEEE.
