Electronic Accessibility
Overview
CCST is committed to making its reports and other public informational resources accessible to all Californians, including those with disabilities. To this end, CCST works to ensure that its website and any other information technology designed to interface with the public is designed to be usable by people with disabilities, including those who use assistive technologies. By ensuring that as broad a population as possible is able to access and benefit from its work, CCST can more completely fulfill its mandate of keeping the State informed on issues related to science and technology.
CCST works to ensure that its online presence conforms to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) as a Recommendation in October 2023. We also recognize the U.S. Department of Justice's April 2024 final rule under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which adopts WCAG 2.1 Level AA as the technical standard for state and local government web content; while CCST is an independent nonprofit, we serve the California Legislature and state agencies and strive to meet or exceed the standards expected of the public institutions we support.
How We Comply
In order to facilitate this goal, our organization, although an independent nonprofit, adheres as closely as possible to the Information Technology Accessibility policy of the University of California (Policy IMT-1300). This includes a commitment to support an information technology environment that is accessible to all, and to promote awareness of this policy to all members of the CCST staff, particularly those in roles that are responsible for creating, selecting, or maintaining electronic content and applications. It also includes a commitment to remaining informed on and compliant with any changes or updates to the ADA Standards for Accessible Design.
For the long-form reports and other documents CCST publishes as PDFs, we work toward conformance with PDF/UA (ISO 14289), the accessibility standard for PDF documents, in addition to WCAG. We assess our conformance through a combination of automated tools and manual review on an ongoing basis. We recognize that some older materials in our archive may not yet fully meet current accessibility standards; we are committed to remediating legacy content over time and to providing accessible versions of specific documents promptly upon request.
