ORGANIZING CALIFORNIA'S WATER INFORMATION SYSTEMS
Following our 2014 report, "Achieving a Sustainable California Water Future through Innovations
in Science and Technology" CCST has remained engaged with the California Department of Water
Resources (DWR) and State policymakers.
CCST is undertaking a new related assessment, partnering with DWR to identify possible ways to
improve access to water resource data spread across the disparate repositories, archives, and
databases of the many California agencies and offices which host useful records.
As a first step, CCST has assembled a workshop design team including CCST Council members,
Federal Laboratory Affiliates, CCST Board Members, and DWR staff. A background paper will then
provide a launch pad for a series of workshops in early 2017.
The need for greater information on California's water supply and use was a key recommendation of
the 2014 report, and the new assessment is an important step in California moving forward to
constructively manage its enormous and at times unwieldy collection of water data systems.
