For over 30 years, CCST has been making California’s policies stronger with science. As an organization created via the Legislature to convene a network of experts across disciplines and institutions, CCST is uniquely qualified to provide impartial expertise that extends beyond the resources or perspective of any single institution.
In 2019, CCST held a series of expert briefings on wildfires in California, covering four main topics: emerging technologies for real-time wildfire response, forest management practices, environmental impacts of wildfires, and the uses of woody biomass from wildfire mitigation.
2019 also marked our 10th year of the CCST Science & Technology Policy Fellows program, placing PhDs directly into legislative offices and committees. In a major expansion for the program, CCST Science Fellows will be placed into Executive Branch offices as well as Legislative Branch placements, beginning with the 2020 class.
