CCST’s Brie Lindsey, PhD, Hired as Deputy Director at California Ocean Science Trust

SACRAMENTO, CA – After a decade of dedicated service and significant contributions at the California Council on Science and Technology (CCST), Brie Lindsey, Ph.D., will be departing her position as Interim Co-CEO and Director of Science Services in August. Lindsey has accepted a new role as Deputy Director of the California Ocean Science Trust, effective September 1. This position will leverage her extensive training in biological oceanography.

Lindsey’s journey with CCST began in 2013, arriving for training as a Science & Technology Policy Fellow. She joined the CCST staff in 2014 and has since made remarkable strides in advancing science services and initiatives. As CCST’s first Director of Science Services since 2019, she has pioneered innovative science service formats, developed and led key science initiatives, and managed projects critical to policymakers. Her contributions have been pivotal in strategic planning, partner engagement, outreach efforts, Expert Briefings, and peer-reviewed reports, addressing issues from the makerspace movement to wildfire and energy.

Lindsey earned her doctorate in Biological Oceanography from the College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University, focusing her dissertation on the distribution, bioenergetics, and behavior of krill through numerical models. She also holds a BA in Environmental Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley.

In her new role as Deputy Director at the Ocean Science Trust, Lindsey will lead a team of science-policy professionals dedicated to integrating scientific knowledge into the decisions shaping the future of California’s coast and ocean.
