The roundtable connects top government, university, industry, and philanthropy leaders at federal, state, and local levels.
The California Council on Science and Technology has joined the National Academies’ Government-University-Industry-Philanthropy Research Roundtable (GUIPRR, pronounced “gwipper”) as its first state-level partner.
GUIPRR brings together the most senior representatives across sectors to identify shared challenges and ultimately improve the United States’ research enterprise. As an organization already bridging science and policy in the nation’s most populous and economically significant state, CCST’s partnership offers more robust access to California’s vast research enterprise and policy ecosystem.
As a GUIPRR partner, we’ll be bringing our experience and network to the table, eager to collaborate and ready to serve.
— Julianne McCall, CCST CEO
“When crafting resilient solutions to today’s interconnected and complex challenges, you cannot go it alone,” said CCST CEO Julianne McCall, PhD. “For nearly 40 years, we’ve partnered with policymakers, philanthropists, and California’s cutting edge research community to craft science-informed solutions. As a GUIPRR partner, we’ll be bringing our experience and network to the table, eager to collaborate and ready to serve.”
Other California members represented in GUIPRR include CCST’s formal Partner Institutions Caltech, UC Davis, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and Stanford, as well as the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and Kavli Foundation.

About the California Council on Science and Technology
The California Council on Science and Technology is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization established via the California State Legislature — making California’s policies stronger with science and technology since 1988. We engage leading experts in science and technology to advise State policymakers — ensuring that California policy is strengthened and informed by scientific knowledge, research, and innovation.
About GUIPRR
The Government-University-Industry-Philanthropy Research Roundtable (GUIPRR) is charged with improving the research enterprise of the United States by successfully resolving the cross-sectoral issues that prevent the U.S. research enterprise from reaching its full potential. This mission is achieved by convening senior-most representatives from government, universities, and industry to frame the critical issues, followed – when appropriate – by the execution of activities designed to address specific cross-sectoral impediments to achieving a healthy, vibrant research ecosystem.
