Sarina grew up in California and Texas and tested out white winters by studying in Vermont. Inspired by living in a post-disaster city while studying abroad, Sarina used community-sourced data to study earthquake early warning systems and seismic safety during her PhD. She also gratified her love for the outdoors by doing ecological restoration work in Yosemite National Park for two years. Sarina earned a PhD in Earth and Planetary Science from UC Berkeley and a BA in Geology from Middlebury College.
