Ope Oyewole, PhD, is a Science Officer at the California Council on Science and Technology (CCST). On the Science Services team, she contributes to CCST’s Disaster Resilience Initiative, covering projects that include pandemic preparedness, wildfire mitigation, and more.
Prior to joining CCST, Ope served as a CCST Science & Technology Policy Fellow. Placed with the California Department of Insurance’s Climate and Sustainability Branch, Ope supported projects to ensure insurance affordability and availability for Californians—including work on an insurance concept for the urban forest along with other legislative priorities for the Department. Following the Fellowship, Ope joined CCST as Program Associate, working to expand the outreach and recruitment for the CCST S&T Policy Fellowship.
Ope is a Leadership Council member at the National Science Policy Network and volunteers as an Assistant Editor-in-Chief with The Journal of Science Policy and Governance.
Ope received her PhD in Immunology, Pathology, and Infectious Diseases from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Her dissertation research investigated host-based therapeutic targets for viral infections. Ope completed her MS in Biochemistry at the University of Tulsa and BS in Biomedical Chemistry at Oral Roberts University.
