Dr. Henriette Canino is the Program Manager for Strategic Initiatives at CCST. Her portfolio currently focuses on AI-related initiatives, including managing the AI Science Residency Program, which places technical experts in California State Government to advise on AI governance issues. She also builds and manages strategic relationships across California’s science, technology, innovation, and policy ecosystem. She is responsible for identifying, cultivating, and stewarding partnerships with government agencies, research institutions, foundations, industry leaders, community groups, and other organizations to expand CCST’s reach and impact.
Henriette is also a science and technology policy researcher, focusing on responsible AI governance and what makes technology experts successful as science advisors for policy. Her work has been cited by the UN and EU, and she served as an expert consultant to the EU Commission’s Science Advice Mechanism, the WHO, and the German Federal Ministry for Research, Technology, and Space. Among others, she has conducted research at UC Berkeley’s CITRIS Policy Lab, the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, UC San Diego, University College London (UK), and the Fraunhofer Society’s Center for Responsible Research and Innovation (Germany). Henriette gained practical policy experience at the office of a U.S. senator and the European Parliament.
Henriette is currently co-authoring the forthcoming Routledge textbook “Communicating Science for Policy – A Guide for Engaging Decision-Makers” (available open-access in mid-2026), and has trained over 700 researchers in science communication for policy.
Henriette earned a Ph.D. in Science and Technology Policy/Behavioral Science at University College London and a Master of Public Policy (MPP) from UC Berkeley’s Goldman School of Public Policy.
