Jun Bando is the Senior Advisor to the California Council on Science and Technology (CCST), where she leads strategic planning, organizational development, and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Jun draws from experience in the diplomacy, national security, and science and technology sectors to facilitate transdisciplinary problem-solving and teambuilding. She has served as a senior staffer in the U.S. Departments of State and Defense, including as the special assistant to the Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs and as a special advisor to five of the Department of Defense’s geographic combatant commanders. She led the Commander’s Action Groups at U.S. Africa Command and U.S. Southern Command.
Prior to working in public policy, Jun was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California (UC) Davis Genomic Variation Lab. She earned a Ph.D. in Ecology from UC Davis and a B.S. in Environmental Studies from San Jose State University. She is a former AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow and Switzer Fellow.
