Retired President and General Manager
Arthur Chester is Retired President and General Manager of HRL Laboratories, a limited liability company owned jointly by The Boeing Company and General Motors Company which serves as a central Research and Development laboratory for both corporations. HRL conducts applied R&D in integrated circuits, architected materials, computing, communications and automated knowledge extraction. Chester is recognized as a pioneer in laser technology and an authority in the field of Technology Management. Chester headed HRL from 1988 through 2002. From 1988 through 1997, he also served as Senior Vice President, Research and Technology for Hughes Electronics.
A graduate of the California Institute of Technology and the University of Texas, Chester served on the UC MICRO Board and on Advisory Boards at UCLA, USC and UC Riverside. He has published numerous technical papers and edited twenty books. Chester is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Optical Society of America. He is a recipient of the IEEE Centennial Medal and the IEEE Third Millennium Medal, and is a Distinguished Alumnus of Caltech.
He served two terms as a CCST Council member (2000-2006).
